I think that was the days before they outsourced to the cheapest builder too. Of course, you had to pay a couple thousand for those machines which even today is a lot for a computer, much less back then.

Fond memories. I was amazed at how fast it was. I also remember paying $1500 for 128mb of RAM and $2000 for a 4gb Seagate Barracuda SCSI drive!

Comments:I've still got my old IIci stashed with my computer parts. It last ran NetBSD back in '99. It survived various wife-mandated equipment purges due to its storage-friendly form factor. Rather than flog the old motherboard, I hope to find more recent Mac guts to shoehorn in.

Mine was all Mac OS based - no NetBSD - but creating your own functional server from bits of software you scrounged (no internet back then) incl DNS servers, web servers, ftp servers was very educational and a steep learning curve at the time.

Now, we don't buidl websites, but there is a tool I have that I gave to my neice, and after playing with for just a little while, she can do the darnedest things with it!
